Alex Fynn is a South African director and editor whose work is rooted in emotionally driven storytelling and bold, memorable visuals. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for creating commercials that feel honest and cinematic. His work captures real, relatable moments and presents them with visual clarity and intention.
His background as an editor plays a key role in how he directs. It gives him a strong sense of rhythm, structure and performance, helping him shape stories on set with the end result already in mind. This instinct for storytelling carries across his work for brands like Intersport, Virgin Active, Puma, BB Bakeries and Woolworths, as well as his SAMA-winning music videos and documentary projects.
In 2019, Alex directed his debut short film, Fracture, a stylised and emotionally charged exploration of solitary confiement and mental health in prisons. It marked a meaningful shift in his journey as a filmmaker and opened the door to more narrative work.
Alex is an International Emmy nominee and a multiple SAFTA winner for Best Director of a TV Comedy. His focus has always been on telling stories that connect with people. In 2025, he is set to begin work on more long-form projects, continuing to explore human-first storytelling and inspiring audiences around the world.
